The Ontario government has announced an expansion of the HST new housing rebate program as part of the 2026 provincial budget.
Eligible buyers of new construction homes will be able to secure a rebate of up to $130,000 under the program from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.
Now, the program applies to all buyers of new construction residential homes for purchasers who use the home as a primary residence or for a residential rental property.
The maximum rebate is $130,000 for new homes at a price up to $1,500,000, and decreases to $24,000 once the price reaches $1,850,000 or higher.
Given the relatively short time window, those who are looking to take advantage of this program should do so while new home inventory and/or construction timelines are available.
