Four in five people know if a home is right for them as soon as they step inside, according to a new poll released today by BMO. That's a very impressive statistic, and speaks volumes to the concepts of preparing your home for sale before putting it on the market. While quickly dismissed by some as unnecessary, taking extra time and effort to identify and remedy potential issues with your home will payoff handsomely. The immediate positive response is so important to the vast majority of potential homebuyers, that spending time with your Realtor to objectively go through your home and find those areas that need to be addressed before making your jump onto the market. According to the survey, 68% of people would consider buying a house that is 'less than perfect'. That reinforces the first notion of addressing items that come to mind when first seeing and coming into the home. If there are problems with the home, over two-thirds of people would be willing to look past them if they like the home overall. Emotion plays a big part in their experience, as well. Being excited about buying a home was reported by 48% of people, and 52% of first-time buyers. Less mentioned emotions included being cautious at 41%, optimistic (31%), stressed (25%) and anxious (21%). Working with your real estate professional to build on the positive emotions, and placate the negative ones help to make the home-buying experience for your prospective buyers a positive one, and that will help translate your home selling experience into a much more enjoyable one.
