As the province formally announced June 20, 2016, GO Train service will be expanding east to Bowmanville, with 2 additional stations in Oshawa, and one in Courtice.
The plan is to use CP Rail's existing line that runs though the region, although the connection between the existing GO line and the new stations will become more clear as the plan evolves.
The service will greatly improve commuter access to the GO Train system, with the areas close to the new stations becoming far more attractive for high-density residential development. It will also make the communities of Courtice and Bowmanville more attractive for prospective homebuyers with a much shorter trip to the closest train station.
Service is expected to begin in 2023-24.
